"R.E.M. is joining the campaign against old growth wood trade. We urge you to step forward and take the lead in ending the trade in old growth wood. " - letter from R.E.M. to Home Depot, March 1998

The FAN Action Van is on the road this summer to suppport local activists who wish to help defend the Great Bear Rainforest. We're putting on slide shows and helping to organise actions right across Canada. The FAN action van is fully equipped with all the resources you will need to organize a protest at your local Home Depot. We have everything from banners and climbing gear to spy cameras and internet access.  Preventing Home Depot from selling the worlds ancient forests may sound like Mission Impossible but don't worry, you are not alone! Environmental groups across North America have already joined this campaign. A diverse range of celebrities are also backing the campaign, including REM, Al Leiter, Ed Asner, Oliver Stone & Cheryl Tiegs.

Here are some action ideas to get you started:

* Write to Home Depot and tell them that you will not be buying ancient forest products from their stores.

* Ask Home Depot staff for sustainably harvested, independently certified forest products.

* Check with your city planning department to see if Home Depot is applying for a permit to build another mega-store in your town.

* Check your mutual fund to see if you are unknowingly investing in Home Depot.

* Organize a protest at your local Home Depot (our action team and van can provide ancient forest product stickers and full action support!).
