Last year, FAN went on a national tour to raise awareness about the destruction of the Great Bear Rainforest and to organize actions at Home Depot to put pressure on them to phase out old growth wood from their stores. This year, the location has narrowed, but the scope has broadened. The FAN Action Van will be going around the "Province of BC" (quotations are used here, because 97% of "BC" is unceded, untreatied land, so the government of "BC" and the province of "BC" do not legally exist according to Canadian and International Law). The tour will be building solidarity amongst communities across the province so that united, we will be a powerful force in defense of the forests, the land and sovereignty.
Along the way, the Action Van will work in various communities to organize actions against the Ministry of Forests, REVY Hardware and InterFor. We will also assist in actions that are more effective for the community. The Ministry of Forests is the major government agency that supports and promotes the destruction of the ancient forests of "BC." They hand out tenure to huge corporations so that they can clearcut the province, providing a few jobs and minuscule tax dollars to the economy. The MOF is in bed with the forest industry, obeying their every beacon call. REVY hardware is one of the largest dealers of stolen ancient rainforest wood in "Canada." With over 43 stores across the country, REVY directly contributes to the deforestation of "BC," by buying and dealing old growth Cedar, Douglas Fir and Hemlock from companies like InterFor. InterFor (International Forest Products) is the largest destroyer of ancient temperate rainforests in "BC." They hold the majority of tenure in the Great Bear Rainforest, including logging rights in over 25 pristine valleys. They are actively destroying traditional territories of many Native peoples, including the Nuxalk, Heiltsuk, Lil'Wat and Squamish .
The Action Van will also be doing slideshows and workshops to strengthen our resistance province wide. The slideshow is about the destructive nature of the logging industry in the Great Bear Rainforest and the Elaho, Native Sovereignty, Ecoforestry and the Elaho Political Prisoners. Also workshops on tree climb training, media strategy, puppet and banner making and direct action planning can be arranged if a community desires.
As we build our network, our actions can be more coordinated and thus more effective and powerful. When the people rise up, the corporations and the government run in fear.
Solidarity with all forest defenders and sovereigntists!
