B.C.’s forests are disappearing fast...
what is the MoF doing about it???
SHUT DOWN
THE MOF!!!
OUR DEMANDS to the MoF
~Reduce the Annual Allowable Cut (AAC) by at least 50%
-by the government’s own admission and standards the AAC is almost 50% over the sustainable yield
~Revoke corporate tenure
-replace corporate control of Tree Farm Liscences (TFL’s) with community-based, eco-forestry committees
~Respect aboriginal claims to the land
-97% of B.C. is unceded, untreatied land
-all tenure decisions must be approved by First Nations’ Peoples
~Required third-party certification
-all logging operations in B.C. should be required to have their wood certified by an independent, non-governmental, non-industry organization such as the Forest Stewardship Council
~Ecosystem protection from industrial logging
-we need new methods to protect our forest ecosystems provincial and national parks is not enough
~Protection of watersheds
-restrictions on riperian zones that will truly protect water sources
~Prohibit clearcutting
-97% of logging in B.C. is done by clear-cutting!!!!
-replace with community-based, sustainable methods of eco-forestry
~Implementation of a moratorium on all logging operations until above demands can be discussed and implemented!!!!!
