November 28-Dec 2nd the Action Van tour continues with slideshows in Denman Island, Tofino, Courtenay, Nanaimo and Victoria... building solidarity with these communities and learning about their struggles...in Clayoquot Sound, InterFor tried to start logging on Catface Mountain...but was turned away by Friends of Clayoquot Sound (check out their website)....on Denman Island...the community has been struggling to stop the logging on their island and implement community ecoforestry...behind their back the land was sold to Jenks for industrial logging....
November 27th Logging Truck Blockade on Salt Spring Island...a lone woman locked down to the axle of a Dorman Logging truck in the town of Ganges, on Salt Spring Island...Dorman has been hired by the Texada Land Corporation to log the forests of Salt Spring. As soon as the truck was stopped, over a hundred communities members came out in support. A few aggressive loggers stopped by pushing people around and kicking signs and stumps around. After a whole day, over 20 RCMP with help from Dorman were able to grind through the lock box, arresting the lock downer.the night before the we did a slideshow in Ganges check out www.savesaltspring.com
November 25 Staples Action in Victoria FAN Victoria and the FAN action van joined together to protest at Staples...there was street theater, a no-shopping spree, a banner hang and information handout ...see below for more info (november 15, moscow idaho)
November 20-22 the Action Van headed out to the Sunshine Coast to do a slideshow, a day of workshops and help with the community resistance to the destruction of Mt. Elphinstone, which is behind the community of Roberts Creek....Lalo has been camping on Mt Elphinstone since August protesting the destruction of this second growth rainforest, watershed and the governments neglect and disrespect to native title and sovereignty....help is needed in this struggle
November 18, 19 Slideshows in Pemberton and Whistler...with people from the Melvin Creek Blockade....just one week earlier the camp at Melvin Creek was attacked by a group of racists whites who burned their welcome center (read more about Melvin Creek)
November 15 Staples Day of Action, Moscow, Idaho FAN and the Cove/Mallard Coalition joined hundreds of activists across the US in a day of action against Staples Office Depot...a campaign has been stated to demand that the world's largest office supply store begin stocking their shelves with recycled and tree free paper and stop selling paper coming from old growth forests and office furniture coming from Sauder Industries, a subsidiary of InterFor....read more here or check out Coastal Rainforest Coalition
November 11&12 the Action Van heads out to the wilderness in Idaho for a weekend with the Cove/Mallard Coalition....on Saturday elves blocked the road into one of the timber sales with debris....all weekend the Freddies (forest service police) stood guard nearby making sure that corporate forest destruction would succeed...we went on hikes around the snowy forests....this area in Idaho is the largest remaining roadless area in the U$A (excluding Alaska)....help is needed to stop the forest service from destroying it....Cove/Mallard Coalition has plans for actions over the winter... read more here
November 9 & 10 Rally for Idaho Wilderness in Missoula, Montana and Slideshow....the Action Van headed south to the U$A...to give support to the resistance against the destruction of Otter Wing and Mackay Day in Idaho...on Friday a rally was held at the Forest Service office in Missoula, because a new timber sale was granted by the Forest Service...we did a slideshow in Missoula as well at the Native Forest Network office, 30 people showed up....Native Forest Network is an international network that is dedicated to preserving the worlds last old growth forests learn more about them here
November 2 & 3 the Action Van headed out to the Slocan Valley, to do a couple of slideshows in Nelson and Winlaw and build solidarity with local resistors to logging in the Slocan Valley Watersheds...all summer, people have been stopping logging in this valley, to the dismay of the corporations and the RCMP who have arrested 11 people for defending the land learn more here
October 28 Halloween in the Elaho....about 20 people gathered in the Elaho for a halloween celebration...a bunch of pumpkins were carved with anarchy symbols, fists of resistance and "Fuck the System"....cops and security drove by, harrassing Elaho folks as usual
October 27 Tree sit at William Sauder's House...for about 12 hours, Grizzly and Salmon, sat in front of William Sauder's house....William Sauder is the Chairman of the Board of InterFor, Controlling Shareholder of InterFor, the Chancellor of UBC, and the President of Sauder Industries, InterFor's corporate affiliate in the states....people stopped by all day long, offering support and reading the information about InterFor and William Sauder that was provided...lots of media took pictures and video...read more here
October 25, 26 Slideshows in Squamish and Vancouver, both well attended with many new faces....the Squamish one was a lot more calm than expected
October 23rd Tripod in the Elaho....for about 5 hours Tripod Todd sat in a 35 foot tripod blocking logging trucks heading into the Elaho Valley. Unfortunately, InterFor security discovered the tripod as it was being set up and quickly informed their buddies at the RCMP that they needed to come in to protect InterFor's corporate interests in the Elaho Valley. The RCMP were on seen by 2:30 am, and quickly got a team together to take down Tripod Todd. By 8 am he was down and arrested. Later that morning, Captain Jaybird was re-arrested on the false pretense that he missed a court date when in fact the RCMP had it wrong and once again just demonstrated their willingness to be InterFor's private security force read more here
October 20 FAN, Friends of the Elaho and the FAN Action Van stormed into REVY to demand that they stop selling ancient endangered stolen wood on their shelves. FAN activists conducted a dead rainforest tour around the store telling REVY customers and employees where the wood on their shelves comes from....until the Vancouver Police came and threw them out of the store...they think ignorance is bliss...When FAN attempted to tell the police to arrest REVY since they were selling stolen wood, the police said we should take it to the government...but I thought cops were supposed to enforce the law?....not to be discouraged we continued handing out information outside the store....read more here
October 14, 15 Convergence in the Elaho....the Action Van went up to the Elaho Valley for a weekend of workshops about forests, sovereignty, legal issues, the kanadian security state and other topics. ..folks from FAN taught people the basics of tree climbing so they can one day become a monkey once again....the moon was full on friday and brilliant on saturday with a partly cloudy night....snow fell in mountains monday morning when the Action Van left
October 12...the Action Van headed back up to Melvin Creek...on Friday the St'at'imc people and Action Van members put up an arch to the beginning of the camp.
October 10...the Action Van pumped out tunes at the Reclaim the Streets at the Ministry of Forest in Victoria...over 100 people danced in front the M.O.F. to celebrate life over the corporate rainforest destruction that the MOF dictates for the province....a banner reading Logging in BC: Too Much, Too Fast was hung up by FAN Action Team members...Clearcut Night in Canada hockey game was played to the wild fans in the audience with Team Earth facing off against Team Timber Profits (T.P. for short)...the Raging Grannies sang and the Radikal Cheerleaders riled up the crowd...
October 7th...the Action Van heads out to Victoria to help plan for the M.O.F. action on October 10th
October 6th...the Action Van headed down to InterFor's office for a picnic organized by Elaho EarthFirst! one person stood up on top of the Forest Alliance Building, broadcasting InterFor's crimes over a megaphone to downtown, while a kayaker navigated the artificial creek in their courtyard, a huge Kick InterFor Off the Planet was hung off the trees they have decorating the doorsteps of BC's worst corporate criminals and tree destroyers
October 4th...the Action Van stops at the Melvin Creek blockade...the St'at'imc people are protecting their native lands from a ski resort development by Nancy Greene Raine and Al Raine. ...find out more about it and how you can get involved here
