What is Abitibi Consolidated?
Montreal-based Abitibi Consolidated is Canada's largest logging company and the largest single boreal destroyer. Almost all of their fibre originates from old growth forest destruction. Not only is Abitibi the largest logging company in Canada, they are the largest newsprint producer in the world (6.4 million tons annually) and one of the largest producers of ground wood which is used to produce magazines among other things.

Not surprisingly, they are also among the top boreal forest destroyers in the world. They have also been in conflict with indigenous peoples, such as the Grassy Narrows First Nation who have been forced to resort to blockades in order to defend their land. With ownership interests in 27 paper mills in Canada, the US, UK and Asia, over 22 sawmills and corporate customers in over 100 countries, there is hardly a corner of the globe not implicated in the destruction caused by Abitibi. Other major logging companies in Canada include Domtar, Kruger, Bowater, Weyerhaeuser, and Slocan Forest Products.
