The boreal forest ecosystem is a contiguous green belt of coniferous and deciduous trees encircling much of the northern hemisphere, including most of Russia, Scandanavia, and Canada. It has long been identified as one of the world's three great forest ecosystems. Urgent action is needed to save boreal forests from logging, mining, dams, and oil and gas development.
