Coastal Boat Tour of Fish Farms and the GBR
In July, 2003, FAN activists toured the inlets of the Great Bear Rainforest on FAN's campaign vessel, the MV Starlet, as part of our anti-salmon farming campaign. FAN members met with community members in six isolated villages throughout the

northern coast of British Columbia.

FAN members took water and shellfish samples at existing fish farms, and visited the sites of proposed farms.

especially determined to try to keep fish farms out of their territories. Unfortunately, Omega Salmon Limited, a subsidiary of Norwegian-owned Pan Fish, one of the largest salmon farming corporations in the world, seems to have got the better of the Kitkatla Nation through the promise of jobs and profit-sharing.

FAN believes that only a healthy environment will be able to sustain local communities and economies in the future. Industrial clearcut logging, fish farming, and oil and gas exploration are all poised to upset the fragile ecological balance in the Great Bear Rainforest.
